If you’re reading this, you’re either a new Ranger, a Senturian wanting to know more about the world of Terraunum, or have come into possession of this book by some underhanded means. If it’s the latter, the material will self-destruct in thirty seconds.

If you’re still reading this, you must be honorable in your acquisition of this material. The best use for this book is to gain knowledge of the world, people, and creatures around you, and to use that knowledge to help better society.

This is a reference guide and uses generalities only. Any interaction with people, places, or creatures must be at the best judgment of the person doing the interacting, and the author(s) claim no responsibility about how this information is used.

  We will cover:

  An Overview of Senturians

  Senturians

Senturians are humans with special abilities or powers, which not everyone possesses. These powers are acquired by one of two means: they can be innate, meaning the person possesses the power from birth, or they are released through the Awakening Process.

Senturians protect the East Side of the Breaks – a mountain range that bisects the east and west of Terraunum. On the East Side, Senturians are peacekeepers, police forces, and army that maintain order amongst its citizens. Senturians also protect people from the dangers on the West Side and the Wilds to the South.

Senturians’ special abilities have two classifications: the Six Powers and Quantum Powers. These powers vary in number and strength in each individual Senturian. The power level of a Senturian for a particular ability is ranked on a sc
ale of one to ten.

The Six Powers are the most common and are also referred to as “elemental powers.” Possessors of one of the Six Powers can manipulate and/or create the forces of nature: Fire, Water, Earth, Air, Healing, and Energy. Each of the Six Powers also has a specific Race of people that are innate users of the Power. They will be outlined in subsequent pages.

Quantum Powers are any additional or extra abilities outside of the main six. They could be anything from an enhanced sense of smell to the ability to teleport. Quantum Powers can only be Awakened; they are not unlocked at birth, even in the Races. [Note: it is suspected, but not confirmed, that each of the Races have special abilities that pertain to their element but are not communicated outside of their immediate community. Any conformation or update to this will be added to future additions of this manual.]

Most people who have a Quantum Power only have one, though two or three are not uncommon. The rarest and most valued Quantum is the Ignis Oculos, or Fire Eyes. On the other side of the coin, the most feared power is the Morsenube, or Death Cloud.

Quantum Powers can be anything and new powers are appearing all the time. As each individual is unique, each person has a special expression of their Powers.

  Terraunum - History

Note: The following information is mostly speculation or pieced together from various sources that may or may not be reliable. However, it is important to know where we came from in order to know where we are and where we are going.

As our best guess, it has been between two and three thousand years since Earth (the original name for Terraunum) fell apart. Earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and tectonic plate movements greatly disrupted Earth. New landmasses, mountains, rivers, and seas were formed based on the upheaval of the world.

The new landmass that emerged from the old is what we now call Terraunum, which means “Earth One” in one of the lost languages from before the cataclysm. Although humans have tried to explore and find other lands, at this time, no other significant landmasses have been found.

Humanity itself almost didn’t survive these changes, but somehow managed to persevere in the face of dire circumstances. Once everything had settled (after an unknown period of time), humans started the recovery process, trying to rebuild society as best they could.

But we did not know that a new threat had emerged. Creatures, some more animal-turned-human, others more human-turned-animal, began to appear out of the dust and grime. They were very hard to kill, especially with only primitive weapons available at the time. It was a very hard period in human history, and once again we were on the verge of extinction.

Then, some say by divine intervention and others by sheer luck, the Awakening Stones were found. Humans quickly discovered that their touch gave them extraordinary powers, and provided the strength needed to fight back against the creatures.

Over time, the humans with powers came to be called Senturians.

Senturians with the same powers (usually elementally based) began to live together, slightly removed from the rest of humanity – much so that they developed their own societies and new races of humans had been formed.

Of course, as is always the case with the fallen state of humans, evil continued to exist. Some Senturians turned to evil, using their powers to gain power or wealth over other people. War broke out between those on the side of good, and those who abused their powers and rejected their calling to protect those less powerful than themselves.

Eventually, with considerable effort and cost of lives and resources, those on the side of good won the war. All of the evil Senturians and creatures were driven back and segregated to the wild, unsettled, and much harsher West Side of the Breaks.

The East and West Gates were erected at the only known pass through the Breaks, effectively segregating the two sides. Between them, Earth Senturians and Dwarves managed to greatly increase the size and scale of the Breaks, making them completely impassable. In addition, they expanded upon the cliffs that ran up and down the coast of the West Side, preventing anyone or anything from easily making an ocean voyage to get to the East Side. Both of these measures effectively sealed the West Side from the East, with only one way to travel between them.

After some time, Senturians from the East Side erected the Wall further west of the Break Pass. The Wall and the Wall Gate expanded the territory held by the East Side, while still protecting it from the dangers from the West. It has never been breached, or challenged, other than Malstrak damaging the surface as he was forced into exile.

It is unclear how large the West Side actually is, as anyone exploring past the Shadow Mountains has never returned.

The southern border of the East Side of the Breaks is created by the Wilds – a dense forest populated by an incredible number of strange, wonderful, and foul creatures. Unable to move an entire forest, one in which we do not know its actual size, humans decided to patrol the border and dispatch any stray creature that decided to venture forth with ill intent. Fortunately, most of the animals that live in the forest tend to stay there. It is the main focus of the Manus to protect the East Side from the south.

  Terraunum Lands – East Side

The majority of civilization is located on this side of the Breaks, spread across major cities, small villages, and farms. The capital cities of each Race are spread across the land. People often live in a location based on their element, as it makes use of that element easier.

The major cities have a mix between industrial and power-based technologies. Power is provided through natural means, as well as the internal energy within every person. Small amounts of energy are collected at various points throughout the East Side to be used as power for everyone.

Harlingon is the capitol and the largest city. It also serves as the headquarters for the human army, Senturian Corps, and Rangers.

Railroads connect most of the major cities on the East Side, enhancing commerce and travel. Otherwise, transportation is limited to horses, wagons, or walking.

Agriculture is vital and is the lifeblood of the East Side. Fishing is very good in both the oceans and lakes, and fresh fish is available very far inland thanks to the train system.

People on the East Side are very proud of their heritage and history, as well as their homelands. While each Race has their own government, usually a monarchy, which have autonomy over their land, they also have a representative on the Council. The Council is tasked with ruling the East Side as a whole. Councilmen are elected for ten year terms.

Humans represent the central armed forces, but each Race keeps their own army and/or navy to protect the East Side is from the West Side and the Wilds to the South. (Note: leaks and/or breaches have been confirmed in the past, but were contained and not related to one another.)

  Terraunum Lands – The Breaks

This extremely high and impassable mountain range divides Terraunum into the East and West Sides. The Breaks serve as the main defense against potential threats from the West Side.

Only one pass through the mountains exists. The pass has high, near-vertical walls that form a valley its entire length, with a rail line that supplies the personnel there.

The East and West Gates provide very restricted access between the two sides, allowing for minimal commerce and trade.

A few hundred years ago the Wall was erected further west, allowing an extra layer of protection and more territory for the East Side. There are a large number of military personnel stationed in and around the area for precautionary purposes, at the Wall, and all the Gates. The Wall has vertical sides and is somehow shielded magically along its entire length against attack or anyone trying to climb up and over. The only access point is the Wall Gate.

Over the years, a few invasion attempts have been made, but none have been successful in doing any damage.

Legend states that the extraordinary height and ruggedness of the mountain range was made by the first Senturians, not naturally occurring.

  Terraunum Lands – West Sid
e

While being largely a mystery and vastly unexplored, there are some things we know about the West Side of the Breaks. There are a lot of people, of very mixed ancestry, on the West Side, who live in small villages. There are very few larger cities, and none that compare to those on the East Side.

A few people have managed to gain power. The West Side is ruled by several lords who control different areas. Their bases of operation are large castles scattered throughout the West Side. The lords provide protection from the wild creatures for the people under them, some much more than others. No other government is in place. The lone railroad is controlled by one lord, and an ill-maintained train is the best mode of transportation available.

Criminals from the East Side can choose to be banished here instead of more stringent punishment. Many have done so over the years, giving the West the reputation as a land filled with criminals. In addition, many Senturians who have low-level powers Awakened choose to live here, as they can get no training/help on the East Side. It is assumed they can make a better living without being labeled as a failure. Overall, most people distrust Easterners, running from dislike to outright hatred.

Villages and civilizations of mixed-Senturian Races have been confirmed across the West Side, with a heavy concentration in the Shadow Mountains. Little to no contact has been made, but rumors abound of the multicolored peoples who live in the mountain range. Various attempts at outreach from the East Side have occurred over time, met with minimal success.

The West Side is most famous for the dangerous creatures and human-like beings that roam and live there. Some show slight organization (examples include orcs, ghouls, goblins), while others behave more like animals. A brief list of some of these creatures is outlined later on in this manual.
